If you look at South Africa very simpistically then us honkies were oppressing the non honkies. Mandela went out to change that firstly using violent methods and then non violent methods. It worked.
I'm pretty sure if I was black and in SA at the time, I'd have been alongside him.
I'm also pretty sure that if it meant aresholes like Geldof etc seeing how far they can stick their snouts up his jacksy he'd have probably decided to stay in his cell.
