fred i've read your post, and yours only and am repsonding to that.aint read anything else yet.
my view.....
otherwise decent 16 year old kids dont start crime by doing creeper burglaries.they work their way up to that level of theft.
dont let the parents sob stories change your mind.press charges.
if he's a good kid he wont have previous will he.(i'd be bloody staggered if this is the case)and the court will give him a second chance.if he's a bad un with history then hopefully they'll come down hard on him.

Trouble is with the courts giving him, a second chance. They may give him a slap on the wrist & he may think thats cool, the worst that can happen to me is a slap on the wrists.
He needs a punishment that would make him not want to do it again.

I'm sorry to hear about this, but I'm glad both you and your daughter are okay (despite being a bit shaken up by the experience), as you hear some real horror stories nowadays.

Personally, I don't go for this "it was his first time" bollocks.  The fucker had the balls to break into youre place, he should have the balls to pay the consequences, after all he would of though he was the don if he had got way with it, and no doubt would have gone on to do it again to someone else!

If the legal process deem that a slap on the wrist is enough then there isn't much more to be said, but at least you have followed it through the propper channels.  If nothing else, it could act as a wake up call and as mentioned before, Mummy & Daddy can't get him out of trouble his whole life!  As a curiosity, do you think the parents were trying to persuade you not to press charges (bit of intimidation)?

On the plus side - you managed to get all your stuff back, and based on what you have said it sounds as if the scrote's parents could be okay which makes a change from some of the fuckwits about nowadays.

No previous has shown up, but that just means he had not been caught yet

That's sort of what I was driving at in my previous posts. Fred had already made up his mind about going through the police and that's his prerogative. I just have a feeling that the court won't do much.

If I was the parents I would send him over to do odd-jobs/chores for Fred. If Fred plays this right he could have his very own 'cider fetching from the off license' service. Or it could turn out like Gran Torino.

Maybe as part of his punishment he could act as a secure off-site data backup store for Fred?

But didn't he also break into the house a few doors down? If so, then its not an isolated case. Did they get their stuff back? It is very difficult to believe this was a first offence as arriba says.

Shop the little cunt.

All this "the courts won't do anything stuff" is, in my opinion, bollocks. Perhaps they wont do much but that's not the point is it?

Going to the cop shop and to a court is likely to put the frighteners up him and hopefully it'll give him a wake up call. If he does offend again, then the court is less likely to be lenient on his second visit.

Good point. Did the parents go round there with the same 'first time/good lad really' cobblers.

Maybe it was his first time but at least next time he'll be known to the feds.

It wouldn't just be a 'slap on the wrist' though, would it? Someone I know was victim to a creeper burglary earlier this year and the police caught the guys who did it. One didn't have any previous and he got a fine, community service and a 12 month probation period.

Great news you got your stuff back Fred, I would prosecute aswell even if it helps by getting his DAN on record which could help someone else in future,At 16 he can still get his life back on track if he wishes that is.
