After today's bridge collapse in Delhi, it seems inevitable that the Commonwealth Games will be cancelled. But I don't think it will be the last postponement/cancellation of a sporting event over the next few years.

There were big delays for the Athens Olympic stadium, with it completed only months before, and the infrastructure was never completed in time for the WC in South Africa. There is already problems with the stadiums and infrastructure in Ukraine for 2012, and the Polish stadia are no way near being ready. I still cannot believe the Brazil have been given the World Cup and the Olympics within 2 years of each other, despite not delivering the infrastucture which was needed to host the 2007 Pan-American games :

Governing bodies have got to put things in place to stop this happening. They can insist that around half the facilities are built before the countries can consider bidding. This would ensure countries stop putting in 'pie in the sky' bids by promising things that they cannot or have difficulty delivering.

I've been to Delhi. Not a particurly pleasant place to stay.

Chose a hotel which looked lovely on the website. Arrived to see a number of rabid dogs sitting outside the entrance. The hotel was proud to announce with a message written on the sink that they had cold AND hot running water (run the water for 2 minutes to get hot). However the pressue of the shower was worse than feeble. Unfortunately the design of the place was flawed and it pissed with rain the night we stayed and the water ran in under the door and soaked the bedroom. Needless to say I couldn't wait to leave the place!

The journey from Delhi to Agra to see the Taj Mahal remains vividly in the memory banks!

If the Indian's that I have met are anything to go by, I am not surprised in the slightest. Thieving, lying, back stabbing little shits the lot of them.

Yes I know that there are gzillions more Indian's than the ones that I have met, but they really were that bad.

From the Telegraph...

"Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has also dismissed talk of abandoning the Games, dismissing the incidents as "minor glitches"."

A one of town's token Indian fans I shall

a) Ignore Bangkok Red's comments.  Though a portion of what he said maybe true!

b)  Tell you that about 2 minutes after the games were awarded to Delhi I could have told you this would happen!

Oh well.  I dont watch the games anyway!  Roll on Huddersfield!

Are you from India though? Did you grow up there? Are you English or Indian?

Hang on.....

In your first comment you mention that I should be ignored even though part of what I say is true. Why ignore something that is true? ? ? ?

And then you basically say something that agrees with my comment.

The words chip and shoulder spring to mind somehow.
