This is one of the main problems with the internet.  A lot of the information is not at all reliable.  The official Premier league website says Swindon but like Reg i have seen Crewe and Newcastle.  I don't have a clue to be honest and don't really care that much either.

 I kind of to care to the extent....that people use it as a stick to beat the club, in "How come we didn't sign Ashton" sort of way.....which isn't fair as he was never one of ours.

   Ben Thatcher, the club were fullly aware of and he may have been on our books as a kid, but Hoddle didn't like him because he thought he was a bit too physical and not enough football.

dean ashton was born in cirencester - fact!

 That's a new one....so far I've seen Crewe, Newcastle, Swindon and now Cicester.

 What's your evidence?

a girl i know says that dean ashton's mum is her sisters god-mother, if that makes sense? basically her mum is friends with ashton's mum & he was born in swindon or cirencester or where ever, somewhere local anyway. i'll ask her next time i see her

Simple way of finding where Dean Ashton was born - look it up on FM.  Very reliable!

Yeah very true.  Unfortunately it seems people love finding things to beat the club with.

So we missed a player (whether we did or not), these things happen, accept it, try and learn from it and move on.  Even the biggest clubs in the world miss the occasional quality player.  but of course bigger clubs have much more money to invest in youth so they are always likely to produce more.

If he signed with Crewe as a schoolboy it may very well be that he moved up there very early on in his life. In which case we wouldn't have known about it him.

i'm pretty sure that someone from the band "the sweet" (famous for ballroom blitz) is from swindon!
