Fucking hell! Have you read that? It seems fucking the government over (although why should they care it's not their money?) is one hell of big payout. They have to be the biggest bunch of idiots ever. EVER. That article is beyond disgusting.

I would've done it for £100k.

Granted it wouldn't be as good and it'd look like a 9 year old designed it, but still, I would've saved them £104.9 million.

Barry's probably a good person to chat to. I think he might have done a dog and horse sitting site for you to check up on, I have no idea why they're always at the bottom of the page otherwise. And DOTJ or course. Sorry I bailed on that a bit lads.

$10 or so for a domain, use namecheap and avoid GoDaddy (they're utter cunts).
£20-£30 a year for hosting. Try primehosting.co.uk - their bottom package will do you. (I use them and they're well priced. Support isn't great, but that won't matter.)

You'll then need to get a site on the space. You'll be able to find some "designer" who'll do it for less than a $100, probably via Wordpress or something.

Is he wanting to showcase his photo's then? Possibly to sell them?

You can get a free hosted WordPress site (at wordpress.com), looks like it support photo galleries as well. I'd sign up for one and have a play with it to see if it does what you want and if your dad can get to grips with it, then if all is good move to your own domain and host it elsewhere if necessary.

In that case then, check out Smugmug and Zenfolio. These are dedicated photo hosting sites, cost around $40 per year and do sales. The caveat is that both are US based, but were looking to do deals with UK suppliers of prints - that might be an issue if your Dad wants to sell stuff. That info is about 2 years old though, so it may have changed since.

My wife made her own website showcasing photos, but in hindsight would have been much better off with Smugmug or Zenfolio.

Yeah, think thats his idea mate.

Sell what? Prints? Image rights? Or what?

This is probably how that HMRC website ended up costing £105m. A poor initial specification leading to continual changes, over runs and eventually exorbitant costs.
