Living where I do, we get an air show almost every day.....we have a bombing range just outside the town! But it does mean that 'in recompense' the Red Arrows come up every year for our Annual Gala and try out their latest routines.

That's pretty cool, though, having the Red Arrows turn up for the village fete!

I went once when I was about 8 or so and remember it being horribly hot and my Mum refusing to keep buying me drinks. I also remember being very, very bored. Apart from when looking at the planes while grounded rather than watching the displays. Saying that, I do remember being shaken to the bone by the noise from a Vulcan flying about 50 ft from the ground, which was quite cool.

We always used to go when I was younger. Shame they have stuck a ridiculous price tag on it mind. Not sure how families are supposed to be able to afford to take their kids out nowadays!

I've been about 3 or 4 times but have never paid....complimentary tickets won etc. Saw the stealth bomber take off; the B1 bomber was very loud

Very true SI Pie. Used to work on the gate when you could pay cash and drive onto the air field. Saw a few people go white handing over best part of £80 notes for 4. And that was 1992.

We have the Farnborough Air Show starting here tomorrow. This year we have all the regulars (incl Red Arrows, MIGs) as well as the new Boeing Dreamliner and the A400M (possible C130/Hercules replacement). All of which will be performing three point turns over my back garden next weekend. Huge BBQ planned. Can't wait.

A400M was at Fairford too. £100 Million per plane!
Would like to see the Dreamliner , but it probably looks boring. Saw the A380 at Farnborough the Fairford washout year and that was awesome and and massive, and they chucked it around a fair bit for such a big plane!

Billions of money wasted in my view........what do these planes actually do to warrant us spending vast amounts on them..........if some dodgy dictator in a far of land wants to nuke us what are they going to do to stop them..............zilch. Thats not to say they dont look good.

A400M will replace all the old C-130K models over the next few years. J will be in service a while yet..... Had to turn down my complimentary invite to Farnborough, too busy at work. Booooooooooo.........
