Are you on a wind up? Or do you actually want a serious answer to that?

Most pubs are owned by the brewery. The Brewery charges a fair what for the leasehold/equipment, etc. During the recession its easier/chepaer to buy beer from the supermarket.

All in all I don't think most pubs would survive on cheper prices. The extra people brought it wouldn't be enough.

The answer to any question of this sort lies in a graph a bit like this

The day of going to the pub for a few beers etc are passe. The smoking ban came in hit pubs hard but cheap booze in supermarkets did so even more. Its been done to death on here. The traditional pub isnt fashionable anymore, People think I can smoke at home and drink and its cheaper? Plus cunts kicking fuck out of each other in town puts people off. Rising cost of living and credit crunch as well contributes. First thing you cut back is going out. People communicate online now etc so dont really need to go out to catch up on the latest chat. Loads of factors. Hence why pubs are now full of food and kids running around. Eventually the british pub will be like an american bar and effectively be restaurants which cater to families!
