http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/denmark/7571713/Carlsberg-drivers-strike-over-lunchtime-beer-cut.html

Quote
Supplies were hit on Friday after angry warehouse staff walked out on Thursday following a Carlsberg decision to end a custom giving workers three bottled beers a day on the house.

Denmark's most famous brewery has implemented a new workplace alcohol policy that limits employees to one bottle of beer a day at lunchtime.

Jens Bekke, Carlsberg's head of communications, tried to reassure workers. "We did remove the extra beers from all refrigerators around the worksite," he said.

"But we have also set up taps from which staff can drink freely. So the employees can certainly manage to drink more than one beer during their lunchtime breaks."

Claus Hyldahl, a Danish health official, found it "amazing" that brewery workers were still allowed to drink alcohol at work.

"Some employees may think they're not affected by three beers. But if you're not affected after three drinks, then you have a serious alcohol problem."

Telegraph seems to have missed the point a bit in the article. They're striking because they're being limited to lunchtime as much as the amount. Rightly so. Workers rights and all that.

Also internetexploer8 seems to throw a fit about me writing more than a page in the reply bit so sorry if there is any mistakles. It's hard to change

I heard that on the radio this morning. Like the thread title suggests, i dont think there has been a better strike in the history of strikes.

Amazing that the only employees the new rules don't apply to are their distribution drivers, who are still allowed to drink three beers a shift.

Really? Not what the Carlsberg spokesman said on the radio at lunchtime - pretty sure he said the drivers got sacked if they were found to have been drinking when driving

I'm just going by the article on the Telegraph website. Though I did make the obvious mistake of believing it despite there being an absence of any firm hard statistical evidence to back the statement up and I know you like that kind of thing.

Hopefully this will force Carlsberg to ship in workers from other areas who will work under such terrible conditions.  I'm in.  All I have at lunch is a sandwich and an orange.

Smiley Touche, turtle. Although in fairness, I'm just as likely to have misheard the bloke on the radio, now I think about it
