Does anyone have one of these handy little devices? They sound wicked and seem to be the best way of playing music from your iPod whilst in the car - but they're illegal. If anyone has one and fancies selling it, I'm your man

My mate got one from Ebay. How come they're illegal? Pour quoi?
I've asked one of my mates who live in the states to send me one over, not too pricey over there.

I have one yes, but it's decided to stop working . It's illegal to use, but not to own, so just pull it out if a copper ever stops you. I've never known anyone to get caught and done for having one though. It is a brilliant bit of kit, I loved it, that is until it gave up on me, of course.

Isn't it because you need a license to transmit radio signals?

Oh, another thing it drains battery power very quick, I could totally run out of power between Hull and home when using it.
My mate has one that is connected to a cigarette lighter adapter, that is just in-line, if you see what I mean. It's quite good, I might get one of them myself. Also it doesn't need the software for you to be able change frequency, it can do it by the flick of a switch.

Isn't it because you need a license to transmit radio signals? Yep. The law in the UK sees it as a pirate station, so illegal. Only transmits 30 feet FFS though!

So does that mean those universal in car phone speaker systems are illegal as well. The ones where you fit an attachment to your phone then tune your radio into a frequency like 107.6 FM?

You can get those for a couple of quid, I've got one at the moment, but it's not as good as an iTrip.

My mates got one for me out in NY last year. Think you can get them just as cheap over here now really. eBay have them, as do: http://www.everythingipod.co.uk/This is cool, I know more than most people about something techie.

Other benefits with the iTrip though are that you can go round other peoples houses, and just tune the radio in, due to it being quite small it's no hassle to carry it around for this purpose.

seeing as I've got a shitty radio in my car and I use tapes anyway, is it worth picking up one of the cassette adaptors cheaply?
