Oooh, good spot!

To be fair, I think all clubs would do that on a contract of a young, promising player. Make sure it expires before there are 24, as they would get bugger all after.

i dont think were get an offer for him this summer either now hes signing a new contract shows that he wants to be here rather than move on.

he could even be one of those who stays for most of his footballing life moving on to be manager in 20 years time. Eek

Fitton has made it clear that the 3 and 4 year deals are a thing of the past at Swindon FC....great news for us in the sense that if someone wants him now they pay top money.
Hes been a major part in our resurgence after the early season drawathon.

Swindon Town striker Charlie Austin is set to be rewarded with a new contract in the next 24 hours.

The 20-year-old hot-shot has had a prolific start to his professional career after scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances since joining Swindon from Wessex League outfit Poole Town in October.

The Robins have the option to offer a further year to Austin's current deal, which runs until the end of the season, but manager Danny Wilson has been so impressed that he has been prepared to offer a two-year extension to the young frontman.

"He's deserved it and earned that contract himself," Wilson told The Swindon Advertiser.

"You can't argue with what Charlie's contribution has been - it's been fantastic and he has deserved the rewards.

"It's surprised everybody in a nice way. We always thought he had the ability but we weren't sure whether he could sustain it over a period of time. But he's shown that he can."

And Austin confirmed the new contract, admitting: "Hopefully it all goes through on Monday and then we can just concentrate on the second half of the season and getting Swindon in the play-offs.

"I've come in, worked hard and done my best, but the rest of the boys have been brilliant and such a great help to me since I came here."

Some of the Poole fans have clubbed together to stick £150 on Charlie scoring for England @ 50-1.
