Embarrassing British over reaction. Laughable and ludicrous in equal measure.

Quote from: Independent
When heavy snowfall threatened to scupper Paul Chambers's travel plans, he decided to vent his frustrations on Twitter by tapping out a comment to amuse his friends. "Robin Hood airport is closed," he wrote. "You've got a week and a bit to get your shit together, otherwise I'm blowing the airport sky high!!"

Unfortunately for Mr Chambers, the police didn't see the funny side. A week after posting the message on the social networking site, he was arrested under the Terrorism Act and questioned for almost seven hours by detectives who interpreted his post as a security threat. After he was released on bail, he was suspended from work pending an internal investigation, and has, he says, been banned from the Doncaster airport for life. "I would never have thought, in a thousand years, that any of this would have happened because of a Twitter post," said Mr Chambers, 26. "I'm the most mild-mannered guy you could imagine."

A very eye opening piece. I had no idea that there was an airport in Doncaster.

Pretty ludicrous....wonder what the xtra-normal Gary Ablett on the Pericard sketch will get then?

obscure northern airport     blow a weedy "sky-high"   job suspension & 7 hours with old bill

cunting magic roundabout      smash into "space"       bring back capital punishment, I say

terror threat level raised today to blind panic for "no specific reason" - spreading a bit of fear around before the election, or blair appearing at the chilcott enquiry, no doubt

Or perhaps there is a genuine cause for concern, particularly after the failed attempt on an American airline at Christmas.

Just to play devil's advocate, if this guy had gone back a week later and blown the place up there'd be outrage that the police didn't act

You're right. I think there's so much fear of fucking up and someone taking the blame for something that everyone's always covering their arse with too much work.

It might be an over reaction, but it was a fucking stupid thing to say.

CyberRobins had some very minor theft on Twitter, yet to have any legal repercussions from that mind.

There was a thing on the radio last night about two kids' TV presenters being nicked on the South Bank for filming a sketch in which they "fired" at each other with blue spangly hair driers. Just stupid. The government have given the police too many powers under the guise of "anti-terror" laws and, wholly predictably, the coppers have let it go to their heads and are now roundly abusing those powers. Both need reining in.
