My Grandad worked at Swindon Railway Works until it closed in 1986.

I used to remember going to a bakery down Cheney Manor Road with my Mum and hearing the hooter go off. Used to scare the hell out of me, I was only about 4 or 5 at the time mind. Some cracking paintings on that website!

I worked there for 2 years when I left school in 82, great memories.
I was the 4th generation Railways Worker and the last in the family line.

My old man did his engineering apprenticeship in the railways when he left school. That was before my parents had me mind, so I don't know too much about it.

There were (maybe still is?) a collection of old photos of the railway works in the Link library a few years back. I remember there was an advertisment board in the background of one pic advertising cigarettes with the slogan saying something like "smoke these fags they are great!"
I had'nt smoked for years but it made me want one

My dad and gramp worked in the railways, and they look back on it fondly. Think my gramp also worked at Pressed Steel, like loads of people seemed to!
