Ive just landed a new and very respectable contract (albeit only 3 months) working nights. My rota is Mon-Thurs 7pm-6am. This is all fine, i have managed perfectly thru the week. But now it comes to the weekend i cant seem to turn my nightshift routine back to days. I have ended up working all weekend on OT as it beats sitting up all night on my own whilst everyone else in the house sleeps. Ive even tried booze but that just makes me up for going out more, and as its 6am i doubt anywhere is open.

Any suggestions on how to alternate the weekday/weekend routine?

I certainly wouldnt suggest Uni, as I'm still awake at 6am which is pretty standard whether been out on the lash or not, gotta be at work in 3 hours, beautiful.

So you are saying tha i SHOULD NOT take up a uni course to help me out with my sleeping pattern dillema. This is noted and appropriate action to stay away from any university will be adhered to.

Nightshifts should be banned as inhumane, i did 10 years of the bastards, took another 5 to get my sleeping back to anywhere near normal, i would jack the job, there is no solution.

7pm-6am? Sounds like you should be going out on the piss at the weekend

Worked nights at Sainsbury's when I was a kid, my mum used to think I had a drinking problem when she'd get up and find me drinking a beer or two at 8am.

Nights is a killer.  I always found that however dark the bedroom was I could only sleep for about 4 or five hours each day.

I like night shifts less people and less bosses.

Sleep till about 12 on the Friday and force yourself to stay awake till a normal sleep time.I find drinking alot of water helps me to feel a bit better during the day.I dont often follow my own advice though and spend my life with sorta Jet Lag

i find sundays the killer.i could happily go to bed now,but that would mean i wake up early tomorrow making  it a very long day.so i stay up to delay it.
there are positives about working nights.as yeovil said less people are about.for me that means less idiots on the road which makes my job easier.also i never have to wake up to an alarm and remember how god damn awful that is.

Drive nights occasionaly....for me i find its my eating habits that suffer more than sleeping problems.
Most people tend to go to bed at a certain time...or think they need a certain amount of hours...i prefer 5 good hours rather than trying to get 8 when ime not that tired....
