Born and bred here. My parents moved here in the 50's as part of the London overspill. It was Swindon or Basignstoke - I struck gold. From living in a slum flat in London, my dad was offerred a job as a labourer and one of the new houses in Park South - with garden. As a family, we owe Swindon a lot.
Similar to you Chalkie, my parents moved to Bracknell New Town in the 50's. It was an ace place when I was little - a one horse town. Just one new housing estate. Cricket pitch behind Woolies, loads of fields, original buildings etc. It was well fucked by the time I got into my teens. I suppose the same could be said of Swindon with the 70's/80's destruction of the old new town. I was glad to leave, it is a horrible, horrible town now. Anyhow, it looks like I am the only person on the poll who moved here because of house prices. Interesting. What I do know that is I have lived here for 23 years and I love the place. When I say that there is nowhere else in the country that I would rather live, I really mean it. An oasis in a sea of green.

I've become the 2nd person on the poll to move here because of house prices. Grew up in Hungerford and after going back to my parents after uni, got a job at Vodafone HQ and decided to buy a place in a big town which was commutable to Newbury. Looked at Reading, Southampton, Oxford, Bristol - but for my money I could get a bedsit in those places as opose to the 2 bed flat I eventually ended up buying in Swindon! And it was 5 mins walk from the CG - double bonus!!

Not posh enough for you?
Very good, but the truth is other than the football and (to a lesser degree) speedway teams I haven't got any links to the Town. Will hopefully return to Wiltshire someday, but I doubt it will be to Swindon. And for what it's worth, there's nowt posh about Peterborough

I've never lived in Swindon.
I've done West Ashton, Warminster (x3), Melksham, Westbury, Calne and briefly Yatton Keynell along with Fallingbostel, Catterick Garrison, Plymouth, Durham and Newcastle outside of the county.

relocated here with the ex working for Smiths - could not have bought a place as big in Hillingdon so prices were good. Swindon is no more shit than any other shit hole - I may move to the country in a few years though - won't go far.
