Between £8 and £9 with united from abbey stadium to commercial road,if they try to charge you anymore ask to speak to management.

Complain... For the sake of 3 quid? If I were said management I'd tell you to get a life and fucking pay up!

Some people make me laugh,I expect you would be the first to mouth off if someone tried over charging you,or maybe you're just stupid enough to let them do it and say nothing.

Bollocks to that. Me and my mates have had plenty of rows with drivers that were trying to rip us off either by driving the long way round or just making the fare up. Not long ago, dropped a mate off at his house and the fare so far was £8, by the time we got to my house about half a mile away he wanted £14 - no way that was going to happen.

It's uphill to the Abbey Stadium.

I'd watch out you don't get taken to the one in Cambridge. That would cost nearly as much as the one STFC Dave got from Bristhole to Bath.

Yes, bloody complain. The same driver will only rip you off again, or your wife, kids, parents or friends. If a barman charged you £4 for a pint which, the previous night, only cost you £2-50 I'm sure you would complain then. If you feel you are being ripped off by a taxi driver then ask to see his 'badge' which he is obliged to show you. Other than that, ask for a receipt, which he is legally obliged to provide you with, if requested. Also take the details of the taxi plate on the car. Make a complaint to the taxi firm, and, if need be, to the local taxi licensing authority. Unless, of course you are happy being ripped off.

Its just under a mile further than my house, I checked on Google Maps - 3.2 vs 4.1.

If it's only 3 or 4 miles can't you walk it?

I always ask what the fare will be,if they refuse or mess about i go to get out and get someone else....guarantee they will give you an amount it will be...get the price before you go...not after.

He could contact the taxi firm beforehand and ask for an estimate. Also, some drivers have a scale of charges based on mileage. My guess is that a journey of 4 miles would be £8-50 tops.

If you're really that bothered ring up V Cars and when you book ask how much it will cost.

Talking of taxi charges, I once left a girls house in the early hours and realising I had no money thought it would be an excellent idea to visit the cash machine at Tesco and phone a cab from there (I wasn't too keen walking down Manchester Road on my own and I had no money except for pocket change). Unfortunately I couldn't get through to any of the cab companies, but as luck would have it I could see quite a few black cabs driving past. My efforts to flag one down weren't successful until one cabbie took pity on me.

I arrived at the road where I live without incident and the cabbie handed me a slip of paper saying if I'm ever stuck for a cab then call this 'special number'. I'm not too keen on this idea but thanked him anyway and asked how much I owed him. He then said I'd already paid him and to be sure I phoned him direct the next time I needed a taxi. Maybe I didn't realise how drunk I was? Hmmm.

I got the hell out of there quick and walked in the opposite direction to my house until he drove off. Checked my wallet and there were the same two £10 notes I had from where I withdrew the money from Tesco. Luckily I'd gotten away without paying any taxi fare and seemingly avoiding being raped. Weird.

I think I might have told that story before, but nonetheless it livens up the thread.

I think we should turn this into a taxi related anecdotes thread.
