America (or at least a significant part of it) is taking a markedly different path to the rest of the developed world. Views that are commonplace in the US are regarded as extremist elsewhere...and as a result, America's ability to provide leadership will erode over time. I am fairly sure that the early years of this century have marked the beginning of the end of American hegemony.

Blimey, just spent quite a while reading up on this Glenn Beck fella and 9/12 day stuff and like you sonic I am now scared! I can only hope the majority of Americans don't think the same way as the clowns that worship Mr Beck!

particularly the hitler/obama "same shit, different asshole" poster.

The American South is a different world to the East and West when it comes to political thinking. It amazes me how passionate some get about their nation. The 'pitchfork' mentality still reigns supreme

I am delighted a country with so much influence on the rest of the world, where so many of its inhabitants are doolally, enough right-minded people turned out to vote and cancel out all of the mindless imbeciles.
We need a revolution of UK politics now.

Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift at the MTV awards recently, she was just starting her acceptance speech and he stormed the stage to declare, in his opinion, Beyonce should have won. Obama's opinion of West, caught during some smalltalk after a serious interview, is great http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8259007.stm

Nobody is safe Twitter. His comments are clearly in jest but they amuse me. I can't imagine Hitler calling Marlene Dietrich a jackass

I do think what Obama is planning to do is 'un-American'. But the level of vitriol some people are prepared to go to is pretty disturbing!

40 years ago a black man couldnt share anything in public with a white man...in the south in fact you could get lynched if you walked down the wrong street...40 years on we have a black president...alot of people dont like that....the irony of the situation is that for all these idiots trying to undermine him by calling him racist dont have to look very far...at his home actually cos his mother is white...so i very much doubt he is anti whites as some are trying to point to. He will make mistakes..he already has,a black politician was strip searched and not allowed into his home..they thaught he was a burglar....Obama lambusted the police..they didnt like it,what did he do...got the police and the politician along with himself to have a beer and sort the mess out....i can remember Blaire being the new hope of Britain, voted in on a big wave of enthusiasm,it didnt last long....it hasnt in the USA.
