We could carry on like this for ever, let's just wait and see because like a lot of non league players the lad must have something or has just bee overlooked. One of our all time best strikers came from non league - Jimmy Quinn
I doubt he's been overlooked....as I've posted elsewhere it's been 20+ odd years since we got a decent player by this route. The evidence suggests there are still a few out there, but probably not so many.
In the days of JQ, who incidentally is a long way off being considered an all time best, players could develop in non league football, more or less unnoticed by bigger clubs.
They might also take advantage of strong reserve team football and a bit of time to develop...it took Quinny the thick end of 2 seasons to become a regular starter.
Now clubs hoover up all lads, and if they don't fit the template spew them out...this template usually means big strong and athletic, unless a centre half, when big and strong will still do.
Who knows..but all the evidence points towards Austin not making it....let's hope he's the exception to the rule.
