i bought my girlfriend a chunky amber ring for her birthday with matching necklace. four months down the line the stone falls out, we assume into the drain or grass verge etc and can't find it. then we find it two months later in the lining of her handbag (i wanted to punch her that night).

i take it back to the shop (Crystals in the Brunel) and ask if it can be re-set. apparently 6 months, two of which the ring has been unused is reasonable wear for a ring that did cost less than £100 but was still not overly cheap.

so i get to pay a fee everytime this fucker falls out because someone made it badly (again, it's only a few quid but a few quid every month is not a reasonable thing to do when there are no warnings that the item is effectively not fit for purpose).

grrrrr etc

Is it over six months or just under?

If it's under 6 months then the ring was not fit for purpose and you're entitled to get it repaired, replaced or refunded.  If the seller disputes this then give trading standards a bell and see what they recomment.

If you purchased this with a credit card it maybe worth escalating the issue through them to get a refund sorted.

probably just over, which is why they're saying it's acceptable. but you don't buy a ring expecting to have to replace it every 6 months do you? (rhetorically). i shall do that tomorrow though Dazzza

the cost she put on the item was half of what i paid so it's balls and quoted something along the lines of "you paid £x for it, it's about the products life"

it's annoyed me a great deal.

I think you are being stitched up, I would be banging on their door first thing tomorrow.  Take it to Iles just around the corner and ask them to take a look, very good workmanship and very reasonable.

How did it get there? Even Columbo would suspect the ring had been placed in the handbag for the stone to fall out in there.

Also, these rants are becoming quite Alan H-esque. Good work.
