I assume not, all in season testing is banned isn't it?

Schumacher has probably driven the car pre-season anyway.

Something like that. But I was thinking that there's no advantage to be gained from letting some one practice in an outdated car, so it'd probably be allowed. It's no more than hopeful speculation though, but I do like to think the FIA would allow him to get some time in a car for the sake of fitness, albeit last seasons.

I'm pleased he is coming back. F1 has been boring lately and Schuey spices things up nicely.

It says on the BBC website that he "will not be able to turn a wheel of the 2009 specification Ferrari before first practice on Friday 21 August", so he should be able to practice in last years car. But I'm not sure that will be a lot of help with the changes that were made to cars for the 2009 season, which have radically changed the way the cars perform and handle.

I should point out that the other problem I have with Schumacher returning to F1 is that I think he is a cunt.

He should have been banned for life after taking Hill out.

I think its all a big set-up like WWF wrestling.

Massa is completely fine and it was a staged crash with the injuries all just make up and latex

Schumacher is going to stall on the grid and be the last car on the track all the way to the final bend when he will do a Hulk Hogan style huffing and puffing and overtake everyone and win.

Just to spice the sport up an all that bollox

If he can practice a bit in last years car it will be good to just to get some his body back accustomed to the rigours of F1.  I'd also like to think Ferrari could tweak last years car to perhaps simulate this years car. No doubt they could also secretly swap out the engine, suspension, gearbox, aero and electrics without anyone knowing (if time wasn't an issue). Although then it'd be a case of the old Ship of Theseus paradox and they may as well stick him in the new one illegally.

I don't agree that it's been boring lately. This has actually been one of the most interesting seasons in long time and the last couple were good too. A lot of seasons Schumacher was in were pretty dull with one or two cars being so much faster there wasn't much competition. 2004 for example was an incredibly dull year, the ferraris were so much faster than any of the other cars that any driver in that car with his team-mate under orders to help him would have won easily. Likewise with 2001 and 2002.

Technically yes, realistically no he can't. Too far behind Button with only 7 races to go.

Can he win races? Dubious. Even he he hasn't lost his edge the Ferrari doesn't look like it can challenge right now. Then again, a McLaren like unexpected resurgence or a bit of rain and anything can happen.

The interesting thing will be how he does against Kimi. Kimi will have to take a long look at himself if a 40 year old with limited track time outshines him. Mind you, he's probably gone from Ferrari at the end of the year anyway (probably for Alonso).

And hope Button or anyone else fails to score a point.

It's not ever going to happen.

I'd rather hope he finishes last every race and is completely uncompetitive.
