Been working in a restaurant tonight. Everyone was eating steaks but in my department (the starters) Smoked haddock gratin with a cheese sauce (smokies) and Brie coated in Polenta and Thyme with a rhubarb chutney were top sellers.
Myself, Ill probably have a cheese and biscuits shortly.

You have just single handedly made me hungry. I want smoked haddock gratin, now.

I'm sure I am not the only one that remembers when they were 10p! Pickled onion was always my favourite.

I really like smoked haddock, but worry that it's not really smoked at all, but just coloured and flavoured. Not sure how this stands up on Trades Description...I don't suppose smoky bacon crisps have been smoked. I like the smoked fish you can get at the coast, particularly the east, when you know it's been properly smoked. I once bought some dried salted fish from Mirza Bros in Beatrice Street (is it still there?).... bit of a disaster. Fuck nose what you're meant to do with it....Bombay Duck indeed.
