I once had plane flavoured crisps served on a transatlantic flight..... 'nice pun' I said to the stewardess, she blanked me the sour faced cow.

One of two things has happened here.  Either she didn't get it, or she'd heard it a million times before.  My guess would be the latter.

Does plain not refer to non-flavoured crisps?

What you mean crisps? Why do they have to specify non-flavoured? If it just said crisps on the packet would you become confused? "What flavour are these crisps? I don't trust this secrecy."

A non-flavored crisp is a crisp

I like the Scotch egg.  There's something sadistic and yet satisfying about garage bought scotch eggs.  You have to wonder how long the egg has been sat there in that excuse of meat wrapped in a layer of soft moist orange breadcrumbs.

I once made some at home with proper meat and few herbs and a fresh farm egg and it was fucking great.

Always reminds me though of Partridge.  Can you smell gas?

Probably.... I might start using the same excuse 'I've heard it a million times before' when people call me by my name.... I'll just blank them... Cheesy

Try it tomorrow at work..

Ah, but you know as well as I do that many people, when confronted with a packet that just said "crisps" would complain that they didn't know what flavour they were.  People like clarity and often have no common sense anymore.  Therefore you are right in principle, but in reality people want the word "plain" or "salted" to describe their non-flavoured crisps.

But then every crisp would have to have potato in it's flavour description. a thinly sliced potato that is deep fried is called a crisp in the same way that a dried grape is called a raisin.

And we don't feel the need to flavour raisins, so why crisps?

Because raisins don't lend themselves to beng flavoured.

Yeah, I had some hot plain raisins. It wasn't working for me.

This is like Lumps v Ironside but with flavourings.
