Talking of sheer power in planes I see the Vulcan is at Fairford this year. That thing is awesome & beats a B1 Bomber & Concorde

Tis awesome,  and a brilliant achievement to get it up in the air at all.

Slight shame the display isn't as awe inspiring as of the old one, probably no car alarm symphany. But got to preserve the engines as there aren't any spares Smiley

I'm not a big fan of flying - always feel nervous when taking off and landing. I wouldn't say I have a fear of it at all though. Having flown in a little 18-seater over the American mid-west, I now realise just how comfortable a large aircraft is!

I want to land at Hong Kong sometime. I've heard it's mentalist.

Yep, the Vulcan is a beautiful bit of kit and the probably the loudest thing i've ever heard.

Did you know that the vulcan had the largest bomb capacity of any bomber in history?

And yeah, a beautiful plane.

You must be talking about the old HK airport where you had to fly almost touching the buildings on each side as you came down - BA would only ever send their best pilots there....

Its all changed these days - new airport and all very boring - they reclaimed land from the sea and built an airport on it - been there quite a few times and nothing at all hairy about it...

I still hate flying in general though - scares the shit out of me even though I fly a lot with work and have flown hundreds of times over the last 15 years - for me it never became easier !!!

I used to love but I've managed to develop a recent fear of flying.  Not so much that I can't get on a plane, but enough to make the flight generally a very stressful time with every bump causing me distress.  I can't sleep on them either.

This came about after flying back from the US in 2001 about 3 weeks after 9/11.  After take off the plane was extremely uncomfortable for some reason, kids crying etc.  The pilot then came on the PA to advise us there was a problem with the plane not being able to pressurise, so we had to be diverted to Indionapolis (on route from Orlando, so quite a detour).  Given the timing it was worrying on 2 levels.

My new fear wasn't then helped by flying Ryanair back from Reus through an almighty storm, I've never been bumped out of my seat so much on a plane before.  The air stewardesses looked decidedly worried, constantly on the phone to the cockpit, which in turn panicked the living shit out of me.

Im flying on Saturday, small panic attacks have started already...! I hate it, i get really irrational about the whole thing. Have an appointment at the doctors to get something calming before i go, not that they will stop the plane from splitting in half mid air or anything!

sheepshagger is right, hk airport is new boring and safe. if you fancy some thrills try landing at funchal on madeira, runway on a cliff top, fucking ace.

I love flying, free booze and food served by fit women in uniform, what is there not to like?

See you understand me! will the doctors give you medicine??

I actually think I have been worse since 9/11 as I was on holiday when it happened and had to fly home 2 days later and the feeling at the airport on on the plan was so stressed an uneasy it made me feel 10 times worse

I have a reocurring dream that Im sat in the County Ground watching a plane crash in the distance and I feel helpless as all I can do is watch.  Crying everytime a plane flys even a little bit low during a match I totally freak!!

Depending on how bad you are they should give you something... i have only ever had drugs once before and it begun with a P but i dont remember what it was called, it was actually my doctors idea this time around as last year i had given up smoking for 7 months but started agian cos i knew i had to fly and stay sober/ drug free as it was just me and my son n the last thing i want is to pass my fear on to him! It was horrible. I sweat, cry, shake and stop breathing at times, proper numpty i am.

We're flying with ryan air so my boyfriend has paid for pre boarding cos i wanna be sure im sitting with him when i die Smiley

as for getting on with it...  i think thats what we are doing by actually flying? Some ppl dont like spiders, frogs, snakes etc but we all have to deal with them and by sharing ones experiances can always help another.

The majority of people actually survive plane crashes as well I think. Spacey being the TEF's example.
