Very helpful Jonny.

I thought so. JFW was trying the Japanese keyboard rather than looking for the Emoji keyboard option. I made the same mistake at first.

1. Install the Spell Number app.
2. Open Spell Number, enter the number 91929394.59 then press return once.
3. Press the home button then open settings.
4. Select general, then keyboard, then international keyboards, then add new keyboards.
5. Select Emoji and you're done.

Works fine on my 3G with iOS 4, should work with iOS 3 as well.

The reason for all this effort is that whilst emoji is built in to the iPhone it is only available as standard in Japan (where they came from and became popular), fuck knows why Apple decided to limit them in this way. So you have to hack the phone to activate the keyboard option, which the above app does for you.

Always was in the UK. It was a bit of a grey area in the USA, but it's just been declared as legal.

I didn't think it was illegal, just invalidated your warranty and if it fucked your phone then Apple wouldn't help.

Why would I want to jailbreak my iPhone?

What extra apps can you get?

Why would I want to jailbreak my iPhone?

So that you can use the phone the way that you want to use it, not the way that Apple make you use it.

What extra apps can you get?

A whole load of them. There are plenty of 'alternative' app stores. And most of these 'alternative' apps offer far greater functionality than Apple would otherwise have made available through their own app store.

Check your home insurance. Mine is protected under that.
