If you have the iphone you can watch all the World cup games. Catchuptv.com (need to register) shows all freeview channels but ITV has a 2010 world cup app which you can watch all ITV games on.

So, the Iphone 4 has been released?

Anyone upgrading?

I will be. I'm out of contract so I'll wait to see who has the best deal, might be a bit better this time as T-Mobile are stocking it as well. Pity they haven't upgraded the storage, I'll have to go with 32Gb this time as 16Gb just ain't enough.

Good lord, is it really £180 for something which isn't technologically superior than anything else out at the moment? They're nice phones and all, but a complete rip off.

It must be better somehow surely? Or is it just smaller?

Anyone got an iPad? I really like the look of them, think they're a great idea but at the moment too expensive to be a replacement for a laptop.

Agreed.

The problem I have is its too big just to take with you on a whim. And too expensive to have round the house/for ovccasional travel. And it stuck with Apple software. So I'm sticking to a laptop and a smartphone/

Anyone know how much a good condition 3GS is going for these days (its for the Mrs).

You can, as long as you're not bothered about network unlocking.

Use Spirit, it's a piece of piss. One click of a button. A lot easier than the old days of redsn0w when you had to hold a sequence of keys whilst it flashed the firmware.

Weirdly, all the 'new' features on OS4 like multi-tasking and sorting the Springboard into categories are things that have been available from Cydia for years.

I jb'd my 3G running OS 3.1.3 using Spirit.

Read the instructions and you'll be fine. Take a back up of the phone in iTunes first, that way if anything fucks up you can just restore back to exactly how it was (apps, messages, settings etc).

It's not just a phone though is it (the same as any smart phone nowadays). I use it for music (no need for an iPod anymore), video (mainly connected to the TV to watch downloads, good for porn as well), pictures (again, connect to a TV for slideshows), apps (sat nav takes a fair bit of space) and so on. They've improved the camera and added HD video recording to the new iPhone, so I'll use it a lot more for that as well.

I don't know how people cope with less storage than that on a phone. Or do you just carry round a phone, sat nav, iPod and a camera?

It'll be better than the 3gs for sure, but not anything else on the market. Of course those clever marketing people at Apple will make it seem like a totally unique product to justify the rediculous price tag. 5mp camera, video calling, limited multi-tasking...just a few of the things off the top of my head you can do on other phones.

That said, Apple's OS and Apps Market are far more polished than anything else out, but my understanding is you have to pay for apps as well, unless you jailbreak the phone.

Make sure you follow the right instructions for your model and current iOS version.

Take a backup of the backup - iTunes (on the Mac) only keeps one backup copy which has screwed me over before.

Most importantly - once you've done it DO NOT upgrade iOS through iTunes. Wait until its confirmed the hack still works with the new version (or they come out with a new hack) then follow the relevant instructions on how to do it.

If you've got a 3GS I'd wait till iOS 4 is hacked and go with that, as there are a lot of new features in it you'll want.

Ah, i've only been part of smart phone culture for a few months and do none of that you see. Now you mention it it seems obvious, but i'm guessing specialised devices are better than an all in one. You know, better to do one thing well than loads of things averagely. And to answer your question i only use my phone for making phone calls and ignoring text messages. I have Satnav in the car and don't own an mp3 player or camera, so before you ask, yes, a sheltered life i lead.
