Sure this has been discussed before but LuxGSM are doing a deal where I can get the Iphone for free. Have to sign up to a 24 month contract but would get unlimited text, minutes and internet access for 50 Euro a month.
Anyone have an Iphone and can recommend it? Does this sound like a decent deal?

Battery depends totally on what you use it for.
Using it constantly as an ipod won't keep the battery for that long or youtube. Mine needs charging every couple of days but I normally plug it into my laptop etc. inbetween via USB which charges it a bit anyway.
I love the phone, think its ace although Id wait till the summer if you're thinking of getting one as apparently theres a newer version going to be out.

There were a few things that put me off getting one:
1) Limited to the wonderful Apple software. 2) I can't use touch screen phones because I am a flid. 3) I didn't want to pay for the phone. 4) It's a bit of a chunky monkey.
They're quite nice phones and from what I've heard and seen the touch screen interface cannot be beaten. You can get some decent alternatives with better cameras if that's what floats your boat though.

If you've got a Mac then I'd say its a no brainer (especially if you already use iTunes). Otherwise I'd think twice as iTunes can be a real crock of shit on Windows and is likely to do your head in and you have to use it with the iPhone.
As regards the iPhone itself; - the app store will blow you away, a massive range of apps with a lot of really good stuff available for free or a quid or two. it is even better than that ad they're showing on TV makes out. - the camera is shit, really shit and you can't record video. - battery life is average at best, I normally have to re-charge mine every day but then I use it a lot for email, web browsing, games, music, video and most phones would go flat quick doing all of that. it comes with a USB charger which makes it easier plus its a good idea syncing it every day anyway. - no hands free / voice dialling. a real pain if you want to use it in the car. - the touch screen interface rocks.
But as someone else said there is going to be a new version coming out within the next month or two - though I'd imagine one reason for the deals being offered at present is to offload remaining stock. They did the same thing when the current version came out.
Though the next version of the iPhone OS is due at the same time with a lot of new cool features, most of which should work with older versions.

I'd hold off for now the next version is due out this year so expect the price to come down a few pounds before hand as operators clear their stock.

Yeah the Iphone 2 comes out this summer I think. That's probably why they are doing the deal. I personally think Iphones (although a great piece of kit) is over-rated. There are a few decent enough alternatives with better cameras around. The only thing the Iphone games over them is gaming.

Actually its the 3rd iPhone this summer, we've already had two. Its supposed to have a better camera and full blown video support - enabling you to edit and upload.

I thought the iphone couldn't do texts? If so unlimited texts seems a bit pointless

Ahh right fair enough. Will gain an edge if the camera is 5MP or more.

I have also been told that O2's exclusivity deal was for 2 years, so that runs out in 2009.
After that it is likely to be available on all networks.

I love me Iphone... the camera isn't great, but i have an actual camera for that. I've never done MMS really, so don't miss that. The most irrtating thing about it is taht you cannot forward texts.
