calling it effort to get to the pub depends on the degree of effort expended. if i had to walk 45 minutes to get to the pub for my steak and chips I'd agree with you, but on the other hand if it's next door or someone drives/carries/puts me in a wheelbarrow and pushes me there then it is very little effort. certainly less effort than actually cooking something yourself.

Tbh the steak pie and chips was a bit of a crap example but otherwise i'm agreeing with you - you can put pie and chips in the oven and leave them there til cooked - not much effort is it?

its not steak pie its a steak

pub steak and chips is my favourite meal. i put no effort into making it

thus it is the best dinner in proportion to effort ever

you could put a steak under the grill and the chips in the oven and you wouldn't even need to leave the house. no effort.

yeah but oven chips are nowhere near as good as pub deep fried

if it was home id rather have roast potatoes with my steak. which is more effort

but we're not talking about what you'd rather have, we're talking about what would be the least effort.

I think a home ordered take-away steak and chips would require less effort, so it would mean that the meal:effort ratio would be greatly maximised. Substitute favourite food for steak and chips if needs be

less effort but the dinner wouldn't be as good

proportionally the quality of a pub steak and chips outweighs any effort involved getting to the pub so much so that it is a better dinner in proportion to effort than a home made steak and chips or any other home-made meal
