A girl I work with got sunburnt at the weekend and her legs have now started to turn purple, like a big bruise.

I'm guessing this isn't normal? I also got sunburnt a couple of weeks back but I turned a nice shade of brown.

Any idea what this purpleness might be all about? I suggested Rickets.

Is she originally from Croydon? If so she maybe returning to her normal colour. If not god knows , doesn't sound good.

found this about purple legs

Your limbs are going into shock, where you are not experiencing proper circulation. Sun poisoning can lead to death, so get medical attention as soon as possible.

Like magicroundabout said above it's to do with circulation, she needs to get to the doctors ASAP,It could be anything from a blood clot or worse, either way it needs to be checked out.

I have passed on your helpful advice. She says it doesn't really hurt which seems quite odd for sunburn isn't it?

I think shes dying of sunburn and its just natural selection taking place.

I really dont understand how some people are so thick as to get really badly sunburnt.  not just a bit of redness and peeling - everyone's had that - but the proper 3rd degree burns type of sun burn.

Doesn't hurt? That's OK then.

What a dappy mare, if I found out that one day my legs where going purple I'd be straight down the Doc's to get it looked at. Painful or not purple legs just ain't right and something is mahoosively wrong.
