right I'll try and explain this one well.

when you log into a forum, it usually gives you the option to stay logged in, yes with me so far

when you tick this you naturally stay logged in untill you delete your internet files and cookies and all that stuff?

now, i am usually logged in all the time, however now every time I close my browser then say open up a new one 20 minutes later im signed out again (not just here, every forum I vist) I then sign in again and click the remember me box and all that but as soon as I close my browser im out again

any ideas?

Check your explorer settings to make sure that it will accept cookies  - it sounds like your log on is only being stored as a session variable which ends after 20 minutes or as soon as you close your browser window.

Clicking the 'remember me' option stores your details as in a cookie which is always available unless your browser has a high level of security or is set not to accept them

Do you use Firefox? There is an option in there to delete cookies when you close the browser. Simply turn that option off.

Didnt work

I gathered that much but how do I check it is storing cookies and to be honest what with not having changed my settings ever in about 3 years I fail to see why all of a sudden they would change

DV, this is Windows we're talking about here, logic doesn't come into it... it's like secretly it changes settings just to piss you off.. you know the ones... "we have udates to install on your computer, let us do it in the background for you so you don't have to worry about a thing..." then bang, something changes Wink

In explorer go to , Tools>Options>Privacy>advanced and tick the Override automatic Cookie Handling box and then accept all cookies... also make sure the session cookies box is ticked as well

Or open internet explorer, go to TOOLS>OPTIONS, click on the advanced tab and click RESET settings and then see if it's any better.
