Well it looks as though my PC at home has teh aids.

I was playing FM 2009 last night, when my PC froze and then showed the blue screen of death.

Now when I try to turn it on, it starts up for a few seconds (Light on MB comes on, CPU fan spins etc), and then turns off again.

I am so hoping that it is just a PCU problem as I am not sure I can afford to replace much else.

Somebody PLEASE tell me that it is likely to be the PCU, pleeaaaasse.

Power control unit, the bit that you plug in to the mains.

Check everything is seated correctly in the motherboard.

Also although the cpu fan seems to be working, if you have a graphics card check to see if that fan is working.

If the cpu fan and mobo light come on then chances are its not the PSU mate.

The list though is almost endless for other problems it could be....the memory may have overheated and fucked up...if you have 2 memory modules try removing one of them at a time and trying to see fi it will boot.

It could be the processor has overheated due to dust build up...give it a hoover out and make sure its all seated properly.

3 ... could have blown the graphics card.....see if the fan is spinning on it, if you have an option of onboard graphics then take out the graphics card and reboot....or if its onboard can you borrow a graphics card and plug in and reboot.

4 ... the motherboard has blown a component, if it reboots and you have intermittent problems afterwards the chances are the mobo is fucked mate.

5 ... the hard drive may have seized, if its an old one...replace and retry.

sorry for the long list but its difficult to suggest what it could be from such a distance mate.

Well.

Whilst I went out for a bevvie after work. My misses was kind enough to take it to a shop.

Upon coming home I find myself with a PC that has been cleaned up, reset and 3 new fans installed.

Sorted.

i installed a new fan on my comp last week. Nice big 120mm jobby to suck some fresh cool air into the case.

Trouble is it ran @ 1800rpm and sounded like a jet engine. It wasn't until i found the box in the cardboard recycling that i found the missing resistor which came with it. Now happily running @ 900rpm.

JJ, What's your views on this little cheap number

I've got the same problem. Bought two 120mm fans but they're loud as fuck. Think I need to get a fan controller.

thats what i was looking into until i discoverd my fan came with a resistor so i had to hunt out the box and there it was sat inside!!!

they're cheap enough to buy two more with resistors rather than buying  fan controller!!!!

i've got this
