Her employer has said that just under 50% of employees will be having their pay "adjusted",
Didn't even think that was legal, unless voluntary in some way. Nice.

Easy to make it voluntary. At my brothers work they had to vote for a 25% paycut across the board, or 40% redunancies.
A pretty easy choice there.

Not if you think you're in the top 60% of the workforce it isn't.

I don't think redundancy decisions go much past the balance sheet these days. The top 40% earniers should be worried!

Sadly, you're wrong. Positions are made redundant, not people, then it becomes a case of how you rank and rate the people capable of filling the remaining positions. this means that a person's job could disappear, but someone else may leave the company and that person be retained. To do this there has to be detailed criteria for 'scoring', and full details as to how the process was carried out, otherwise the employer could end up before employment tribunals.

Well OK, but there are ways around it aren't there.
e.g. employ a load of cheaper employees doing the same job but based overseas. They were of course doing the same job (for less), hard to argue against the 'scoring'.
Or make a higher ranking position redundant, then distribute similar responsibilities to other team members who won't be doing the same role.
My point being, people I have worked with have been made redundant and effectiveness at their job didn't seem to come into it. Some excellent people got canned. Some plebs kept their job.

I've probably greatly oversimplified it, I'm sure all the correct boxes are being ticked, but this is pretty much the effect of it, that she's waiting to hear if she's one of the ones getting a pay cut. Apparently the "adjustments" may also include some rises, but she's not holding her breath
