I don't know how to reply to that in a helpful way. Giving sympathy isn't going to help you.

I guess people react to things differently, and it's important to know it's not your fault, or anyones fault really. I wonder if there is professional help available because it sounds like Sussex is clinically depressed and sometimes telling someone to  "snap out of it" isn't enough.

Hope that doesn't come across too wanky.

Nope not at all, he is very depressed but trying to get him to a doctor is near on impossible until he wants to go for himself Sad

birdy. from what you say sussex has depression for sure.he deffo needs to seek help asap, starting at the docs.the positive thing is that he will beat it, if he recognises he has depression, and then addresses it with the help available.getting out on long walks with your dog will help for sure too.

It might not apply everywhere, but i'm pretty sure you can refuse to relocate an 'unreasonable' distance, and the only way to then get rid is redundancy. Don't quote me on that, but it's one of the things we've been made aware of for our transition... if they try to make us relocate to their head office somewhere around Hatfield, and we don't want to go, out we go (but with payoff).
about 40 miles I think I heard - you don't want to go to Hatfield mate - I went to big school there - uuuurgh

Sadly a few people in my family have had it quite bad, and some friends as well, some wouldn't get out bed some days.

There is no easy answer, going to the doctor is one thing, he has got to recognize that he has it and then realise that he has got to try and beat it. You will be a big support i'm sure, but generally out of the people i've known, it's come down to them accepting they have it, and then taking steps to beat it. And as someone else said, telling anyone just to get over it is not the answer, not saying you would do that but that def won't work.

I guess it's not easy for you, and i sympathize, just realise it will get better one day and just keep on being supportive.

News just in, I'm being seconded out for six months, possibly to Essex.

I might as well ask for my P45 now. Cunts.

Can you not request voluntary redundancy and force the fuckers to pay up your holiday?

Birdy, and of course Sussex.

Iv'e been there myself, in fact I started a thread about it some time last year (Ish)

When I was diagnosed with it, I was a tad shocked and didn't really believe it but after doing some googling I realised that I had all the symptoms.

Also, being diagnosed gave me a real kick up the ass, and pretty much spurred much into action because I wanted to battle against it. My problem at the time was my job and so I instantly began sending my C.V out and basically doing my best to get interviews and stuff. Even when it wasn't working just making an effort helped me sooooooooo much.

To echo what everybody else has said it is essential that Sussex (Yes, we are talking about you mate) gets to the Dr. ASAP. Being able to identify, understand and isolate the problem was almost a huge help for me.

Something else that really helped me was talking about it, via the TEF. The kind replies from the thread that I started, along with the many supporting PM's that I received was so touching, even from a bunch of cunts that I have never ever met in my life. Of course i am not neccesarilly suggesting to go through the TEF as I did, but talking does help.

Most of the PM's I received where also very very constructive because it made me realise that I was not alone, and infact depression is quite a common ailment. I was  surprised at how many TEF'ers have been through it themselves.

I hope that both of you will be back up on your feet soon.

That is a bloody good post Bangkok.  I also suffered from it many years ago, work related problems, had a talk with somebody who basically laid it on the line, get on with your life or succumb!  I chose the former, threw away my tablets and basically got up next morning and said that this is the first day of my new life.  Fortunately I was still in work and my sympathies go out to Birdy and Sussex and hope and pray that they get through it ok, they are in it together and must fight it together.

I know this forum has more than its fair share of jokers and wind-up merchants, but the two posts above (from Bangkok & ronnie) are absolutely golden and spot on the money. Pat yourselves on the back gents.

Oh, and Sussex & Birdy, you can and will pull through this. Its something you have to do together though and recognise that you need help (certainly in Sussex's current case). You know where we are if you need to talk.
