Either way, wasn't it supposed to be after he finished at Newcastle? Before his contract got extended. He may have gotten the taste for football again and decided he wanted to keep it up.

If Fitton's doing his job then I hope he's "approached", "discussed", "looked at", etc. loads of different managers. It only takes a phone call to ask if Wenger is fed up at Arsenal. Why not.

In a more serious take at what I'm on about. I guess that they've at least been "in contact" with a lot of unemployed managers, as well as employed non-top job managers, and possibly a few enquiries about managers which have a top job somewhere.

I'll go as far to judge that the process has gone on so long because they've had a few negotiations broken down. Who knows? It's all speculaiton. The swift turn around of favourites in the press, and the changes in Fitton's interviews makes me think that he's lost out on at least one manager.

If he's been punching above our weight with the hope of bagging a lucky prize, then fair play.

I think you're probably right, there has been a few changes of direction in the stuff said in public.  And I'd instinctively agree with the punching above our weight point too (although shoot me if I ever use the phrase "bagging a prize" outside of some public school yarn parody). But fuck me, it's getting tedious now.

I think in all honesty they had no idea who to appoint when they got rid of Malpas and that has certainly had a bad impact on our league position, I think a new manager appointed 2 weeks ago would have put us in a better league position then we are now. I'm not saying I wanted a new manager within a few days of Malpas going but they seem to keep changing their minds depending on who rejects the job next.

So what was the alternative then ?

There does seem to be this feeling of needing to get someone in NOW because of our slide/January window. It's unlikely we will add to the squad, save maybe a loan or two anyway.

But getting the right man is more important than rushing it. The right man will get our current players playing again. If that takes an extra week or two then so be it.

The biggest worry would be if delay turned out to be because we had to go down to our Nth choice manager, I'm hoping that isn't the case.

As neville says, what would you have done? And why, come to that? You've done the standard thisis "byrne's a clown", "byrne out" rant since you started coming on here, but still not given any reason for it. Face it, Byrne took over at the start of a four-game run that would have had any new manager thinking he'd been dropped right in it, and he's got some decent performances out of previously demoralised players and been bloody unlucky with some of the results. If you've got reasons for your one-line snipes, fair enough, but if all you have to contribute is one-line insults, it's just a waste of space

Rovers away. Always a hard game so again a draw was a good result.
Posh are flying so again a good result.
Walsall was dissapointing and was Carlisle yet i think if i gave you these results before malpass was sacked you would have taken them.

I think we've done really well against some top sides. people forget we're 1 point off relegation so have done well.

Quite right mr I was talking to a mate this morning and we said actually if you'd asked people whether they'd take a draw out of any of those first four, most people would have said, yeah, fine that will do me. It only became a problem for most (apart from those who just want Byrne burnt at the stake and always have) when they all turned into draws which meant a minimal points return, especially as most of them people came away from feeling we should have won.
