Not strictly in Swindon - Stoke Newington, but worth a detour

When I moved to North London in the 70's, I had no idea what a kebab was, they didn't exist outside of the Cypriot ghettos of Haringey.

I'd guess the Vic Hill shop opened in the very early 80's.....so has been there a while, albeit under different management.

A mate who'd had a heart attack, was told to stop smoking, stop drinking, and stop eating kebabs...he could do the first two OK, but has problems with the kebabs.

just think about where those kebab van workers go to the toilet.
If its the one by the rugby club, then they go to the toilet in the rugby club Cheesy

Correct. I think it was called Kings when it opened. I went there the first day it opened for my one and only kebab ever. It was definitely the first one in Swindon.

You're missing out. In fact in the summer when we have a brief weekend of sunshine, it's quite enjoyable to make your own kebabs and grill them on the barbecue. Of course, leaving them to marinade for 24-48 hours can be a bit of an issue as you're never too sure if the weather will hold out.

Used to be Best Barbeque, but now prefer Swindon Kebabs - Manchester Rd, although if it is
for the best burgers then Sammies.

So you have eaten a kebab then?

Most kebabs are cooked skewered, doner is the elephants foot you're referring to. My mates mrs at uni was Cypriot (although Greek) but told me doner kebab literally means 'rotating kebab'.
