I guess someone has already mentioned Delicatessen and La Cité des enfants perdus, if not. I have.

The Lives of Others Tsotsi Brotherhood of The Wolf Europa Europa Goodbye Lenin Read My Lips
I've also recently watched Persepolis and Apocalypto, both of which deserve an honourable mention.

Terkel in Trouble is pretty funny for something which is Danish. Get the English dubbed version which has Adrian Edmondson and Bill Bailey doing voices (amongst others).

Watched Jean Reno and Christian Clavier in Les Visiteurs which was enjoyable.
Put all the suggestions that work had in stock to the side and have ordered some others too.

I just watched The Kite Runner, set in Afghanistan. Good film. Subtitled throughout.

Love Brotherhood of the wolf and apocalypto. Not read the entire thread, but if not mentioned before Old Boy, Infernal affairs, and A very long Engagement are favs of mine, there's something about subtitled films (probably because you have to watch everything) that make them particularly satisfying in my eyes

Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma
To be honest, only watch this if you're really interested in seeing it. It's an interesting bit of cinema, but once you've seen it you can't undo it. It's sick and horrible in it's exploration of how far people will go for their own personal pleasure, and not in the gratuitous way you see in modern films like Hostel. It's fucked up. I'm not exaggerating or being melodramatic or anything. It really is fucked up. But yeah if you're interested then watch it. It's not just fucked up for the sake of it, like you get with something like Cannibal Holocaust. It being fucked up is a valid part of the film. But it's still really fucked up.
