Any recommendations? Was looking at my DVD collection and it was lacking non-English speaking work. I'm quite partial to a foreign language film, bought Black Book today - which I've heard good things about. Cheers  |

Think City of God is the only subtitled film I've seen all the way through, but you've probably seen that.
I liked it a lot.

I can recommend Ônibus 174, a Brazilian film Mex got me onto a couple of years back, great film very much in the City of God mode. Of course, there's Pans Labyrinth, Der Untergang, Spirited Away... but i'm sure you are well aware of them

The Seven Damurai - Japanese - Black and white - 3 hours long - excellent. The Japanese versions of Ring 1 and 2 were also far superior to the US versions.

Tell No One [Ne le dis à personne]
Based on the crime thriller novel by Harlan Coben. Book is set in America but this is a French film. There are a couple of differences in the plot as well, but I quite liked all of these differences because it almost felt like a different story.

Los debutantes (chile) is a bit like a lo budget pulp fiction vibe, very good
The Orphanage ( spain) ace spooky horror
Abre los Ojos (spain) This is the original of Vanilla Sky.
The Bands Visit (Israel) Really good film about an egyptian police band that end up in Israel
Bus 174 (Brazil) Documentary about a kidnapping on a bus in Brazil, quite harrowing.
El Crimen del Padre Amaro (mexico) Dark relgious sex film, very good
That will get you started i can tell you shitloads more.
