Looking through my program collection i came across a rare one i forgot i had puchased between Drumcondra v Evergreen FC....the year 1955.
Think Drumcondra are still going but anyone heard of Evergreen?
All i know is they played in Cork,any other info would be nice...thanks.

I just noticed that, for some reason, that link doesn't bring up the page I found... Here's what it says... Evergreen United F.C. is a former Irish football club originally based in the Evergreen Road area of Cork. They played in the League of Ireland between 1951 and 1959. In 1959 the club changed their name and became Cork Celtic.
Evergreen finished as League runners-up in 1953 and 1959, on both occasions finishing second to Shamrock Rovers. In 1953 they also played in an all-Cork FAI Cup final against Cork Athletic, losing 2-1 in a replay after drawing the first game 2-2. During the 1956-57 season Evergreen’s Donal Leahy finished as joint top goalscorer in the league with 15 goals. In the following two seasons Leahy finished top goalscorer outright with 16 and 22 goals respectively. Irish international Tommy Moroney finished his playing career with Evergreen and, on October 4 1953 in a World Cup qualifier against France, he won the last of his 12 caps while with the club. |

Thanks Ben...couldnt find that,probably why its rare then if they folded in 79....they had a Whiteside in the team....could have been Normans dad...cheers anyway.

We signed Russell (Bender) Lewis from Everwarm, who were apparently a Welsh club. Although I've never heard of them, think they were a forerunner of TNS, being sponsored by a coal firm. Russ was given the nickname Bender by a mate, because he was unable to kick the ball in a straight line...not because of his sexual orientation. |
