I see that Asda are to reduce it's PAYG costs to 8p per min & 4p text - now I know they use Vodafone infrastructre for their calls - so does this mean if you sign up with Asda Mobile technically you are using the Vodafone network so will still have a good signal wherever you go due to Vodafone coverage.

Any know how all this works ?

You are correct,

Be careful to consider any 'deals' that provide unlimited text/free weekend calls/internet access rates  into you calculations and if ASDA provide what you want for cheaper then go for it.

Also note that you'll probably need an ASDA or Unlocked phone, just because ASDA use the Vodafone network  don't presume you can put an Asda SIM into a Vodafone phone. Check it out before buying if this is likely to be an issue.
