I'm in need of some books to take on holiday with me. Last time I went it was for 7 days and I went through 4 books, this time I'm going for 14 days so I'm going to need a few more.
Recommendations please...

'northern lights' by some guy whos name escapes me, its very good, i've just started on the next book in the series, 'the subtle knife'.
('northern lights' was turned into the film 'the golden compass', which i've not seen. but the book is very good)
'cloud atlas' is also a good book. errrrrrrrr... richard hammonds autobiography is good too. eerrrrrrrm... if you havent read it yet, the book 'high fidelity' is awesomeooooo, better than the film, and the film is ace!

I have the Northern Lights trilogy but I've not read it yet, so I'll take that with me. I've already read Richard Hammond's auto-biography.
And Tans, I'll read anything really. Footballer's auto-biographies aren't that high up on the list though.

Depends on what you like. If you like Tom Clancy then Patrick Robinson is of a similar ilk. Last year I read Conn Igullsons "Rome" type series (Historical Fiction based on fact) which I enjoyed plus his first one on Genghis Khan.

If you like horror, I would recommend any collection of Call of Cthulhu short stories (Robert Bloc and others) - very creepy.
For crime, I enjoy the Falco books by Lindsay Davies - they are light hearted and based in ancient Rome.
If you are into sci-fi/fantasy, give any book by Guy Gavriel-Kay a go.

I've always found reading something linked to where you are to be good, eg if you were on holiday in Dorset, you would read Hardy or maybe Fowles.
So where are you going Samdy?

 Other than referring to Lampard as Lamps, in total agreement. I imagine evil psychopaths bent on world domination, having a pool for great white sharks and piranha, and a chamber for having to read the autobiographies of John Terry, Phil Neville and Rio Ferdinand. |
