Nowt wrong with being greedy if you think you deserve it Dave. My pay's gone up 20.6% since last April thanks to my persistent nagging at my manager.
Unfortunately, so have your food bills, utility bills and the cost of servicing your mortgage. (Smiley thing, smiley thing.)

I've just been refused a pay rise because 'you need to be able to demonstrate a much greater involvement in the curriculum which means getting more involved with students and indeed supporting lessons etc'. WTF!! I'm not a teacher!!

I got 5k yesterday on top of annual, by using the nagging, and hinting i might be looking around method. Judging by the varied responses no hard and fast method, depends on persistance a lot of the time, and willingness to back up if it goes pear shaped, I was.

WTF!! I'm not a teacher!! now i know why so many school network managers/it bods are resentful and bitter. i still don't understand how some of them get these jobs though... 'so, this web based product we're purchasing from you to manage your library...do we need to host it on a server and does it need IIS?' *headdesk*

Erm, maybe they realise that many "web-based products" are hosted by the vendor these days and provided basically as rented services? Making the question about hosting extremely pertinent. And even if they do need to host it themselves, most web apps would not require IIS. Many would not require a separate web server at all, because for example they are hosted in AppServers which embed their own web server, or because they are platform-neutral and can run on any web server rather than requiring them to effectively blow a hole in their network by installing the bug-ridden security hole that is IIS. *headdesk*
