Sonic - how long have you been insuring your Clio?  You could go 3rd party on a Golf if it's not too valuable, but if you wrote the car off....

For a 1.6 you're best off having 2-3 yrs of driving behind you before insurance companies give you a fair claim.  21 is meant to be the age where insurance majorly drops.  I'm still paying 1100 on my second year of insurance for a 1.2!!!

I'm a named driver on the Clio, the policy isn't in my name. It was my Mum's but she rarely drives it now and as it stands we're going to have to get another car otherwise none of us will be able to go to work or in my case, college :]

Got a quote for £750 3rd party on the clio which is pretty good. £1200 was cheapest for that Golf, I think it's pointless getting a nice car 'til I'm 21 Hmmm...

I'm 22 and Ive been driving since I was 17. Because I drive my dads company car I've never had insurance. Does this mean when I get a car of my own they will treat my like a 17 year old? I've never crashed or anything so I should just get free insurance.

One way or another, at some stage you will end up playing a big sum for insurance....

If you've been driving 5 years most companies will give you 1 year no claims bonus regardless Smiley

My dad drove company cars till he was about 35.  He had a hard time insuring his own car first off, most companies don't want to know and will treat you like a new driver, but some companies will give you some form of benefit as you've been driving for longer, but you'll still pay more than you would have done.
