Hatton is good but a bit overrated. Unfortunately us brits over rate everything, Hatton, The England football team etc.... Cant belive Sky Sports actually went to Austria/Switzerland to ask "are you upset England aren't here"
This is bollocks actually, people in Britain generally moan that we don't win much when we actually do way better than most countries at most of the big sports.

Agree. Discounting Football, considering the size of our nation we over-achieve on a global scale compared to some other countries that have ... x the population.

I wouldn't even discount football actually, I mean we're still ranked top 10 in the world, http://www.eloratings.net/, we've made the last 8 of several of the last major competitions. Everyone plays it so that's top 10 out of 200 countries, even though many of them are much bigger than us. We are also one of just seven countries who've won the world cup.

Then rugby the last two world cup finals we've won one and made the final in the other. We have the best driver in the world in Lewis Hamilton, one of the top 5 or so cricket teams, two of the top 10 pound for pound boxers in the world, a tennis player ranked 11th in the world, a golfer ranked 6th in the world and the best snooker player in the world.

I really wouldn't say that we "never win much". People just like to moan.

some fair points ben wah.but in football as a nation have won the world cup once and thats it.i reckon that is a massive underachievement considering it is our national sport and millions play the game.
also our athletics and swimming aint what it could and should be.

Is it really that much of an underachievement though or do we just expect too much, millions play it in lots of other countries as well and teams like Spain and Holland have not even won one despite often having strong teams. If there had been world cups before 1920 when England were by far the strongest nation or if we had entered any before 1950 them I'm sure we would have won a few more.
