I don't think it was unanimous as I'd anticipated I think it was about 60/70% felt he was a cunt and 30/40% who didn't, definitely the same bloke though.

I can only agree.

My undergraduate dissertation sought to demonstrate that, at least in the field of literature, the former is a development of the "high" modernism of the likes of Eliot and Pound, rather than a break with it.

It's unfashionable but I find myself siding with Georges Lukacs on the subject of modernism quite a lot, even though he's often, a  bit unfairly,  accused of being an apologist for Stalinism.
