Donna (the lady I was with Sunday night) has just came back from there about a week ago (her Mum has a house over there)

What sort of info do you need mate and I'll give her a buzz

Is there stuff to do or is it just 'relax relax relax' as sod that
Is it expensive to do things
Is it safe? (this is porbably the best one)
Is there much disease etc and do I need injections (refer to 1st question ie sod that)

Doctors will advise on immunisations as the requirements can change frequently.  We had to have yellow fever for Kenya which is likely to be the same.  You'll prob need hepatitus A too and Malaria tablets.  if you do need Malaria tablets, don't scrimp and get cheap ones as they have horrid side effects.  Get the expensive ones as you take them for less time and less frequently.  The tablets you choose can also depend on where you go and for how long.

I had that before i went to the Dom Rep last year. Fucking evil stuff, had to have 2 weeks off work  :shock:  Had the shakes, shivers and all sorts.

It made me so sick so had to change tablets.  The new ones were about 3 times the price but so worth it and no sickness.

malarone is supposed to be the malaria tablet of choice for a short trip - costs about 3 quid a day, but you only need to take it a few days before you leave and a week after you get back as I think it kills the parasites that mosquitoes give you as soon as they enter the bloodstream and before they can cause any danger.

I had mefloquin and chloroquinine once, which is cheaper per tablet, but you need to take it for weeks before you go and something like a month afterwards as it only works once possible symptoms start to develop and that can be three weeks after infection (someone I know caught malaria after not taking his tablets when he got back in the country and believe me it isn't pleasant).  It also gives you the shits while you are on holiday and had other possible side effects that sounded remarkably worse than getting malaria itself.  Oh, and most malaria parasites are immune to it in any case so its also pointless.  

Use lots of insect repellent like DEET too - that stuff isn't the best for your skin, but it kills the little bastards when they land on you, and them citronella candles are actually pretty good too for when you are asleep.

Apparently mozzies don't like marmite either, so if you eat lots of it you secrete some chemical from the marmite through your skin which keeps the mozzies away.

Nice beaches. You'll get Banjul Belly for sure. I went in 2003 and it's pretty cheap there but a very poor country, be prepared to be shocked by the levels of poverty and hassle you'll get from bandits trying to sell you stuff you don't want.

Having said that the weather was nice and there are day trips available.

Take loads of pens if you do go to give to school kids on one of your day trips - they don't want sweets.

Oh yeah, and there are loads of fat, minging, old british birds shagging young Gambian men. It's like Thailand but in reverse.

I've done some studies on this sort of thing quite recently. Bit weird how some women seem to look down on prostitution, yet go to places like Africa and the Caribbean and are willing to take local men out on dates, buy them things etc in return for sex - apparantly it's different  :?
