Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.  Scary place.  Lots of disaffected ex-miners.  (There's going to be one hell of a party there when Thatcher finally pops her clogs.)

Au  contraire Ardiles....Mansfield and Notts,  was  the centre of strike breaking....they even broke away and with the help of Thatcher formed the UDM....they also trained up the Notts Constabulary into some sort of quasi- para military force, as vividly seen when STFC went to Mansfield in 86, and many skulls got cracked for no other reason than being there.

Might be some dancing inthe streets in Barnsley and Chesterfield.

Fair comment.  I do remember when we went there a few years ago, actually.  (Bizarre game.  We lost.  There was a female Swindon fan dancing down at the front of our stand, clearly off her tits.  She was better entertainment than what was happening on the pitch.)

Then some of our fans started chanting 'Scab, scab, scab...' to the Mansfield supporters, and you could see the Notts Police roll their eyes and think 'Oh shit, not this again.'

Still stand by my assertion than Mansfield is a crap town though.  Shame, because the surrounding countryside and villages are quite beautiful and unspoiled.

Fucking hell how did anyone forget that place! My Nan used to live there and that is truly and utterly a fucking shit whole of the highest order. It's like a run down council estate held together with heroin.

Kettering is not much better either. Although it does have wickstead park which is a poor man's themepark with some scarey homemade rides.

Part of the reason there is "unspoiled" countryside, especially notrh of Mansfield into the Dukeries, is because the land was the property of the Dukes of this that and teh other.  A lot of their wealth accruing from mineral rights.

Oddly for England these huge estates became contiguous.

Its years ago now, but its the only place in England, where I've been asked to leave a property for trespassing, escorted away by the gamekeeper.   See DH Lawrence.

Highworth... I know it's basically Swindon-ish but each time I have been there felt that it was like:
"This is a local shop, for local people... well have no trouble here"

I was in one Highworth pub one night, I went to the bar to order my first beer of the day and the barman literally said to me "Iv'e got my eye on you", Made me feel real welcome like.

Outside of the UK I don't like Pattaya, Thailand. It is dead sleazy (Not my cup  of tea) and also quite dangerous, youths with gun and stuff. A great place to score narcs though.
