I can't really comment on the lad on the T.V. and stuff cos haven't seen him recently.

What I will say about the bloke is that his enthusiasm for club (Arsenal) and country was unmistakable and he always gave 110%. IMO he also deserved more caps.

I also remember quite vividly him in the crowd with the Cross of St. George during Euro 96, doing all that he could to support England.

The reason Andy Gray gets more respect than most is that at times he will give a genuine insight into the game from the mind of an ex pro. He'll explain why a player has done something and looks at things a lot deeper than most of the BBC lot - oh he'll be disappointed with that. I fast forward through the pundity on MOTD

errrr ... what are Hanson/Lawro/Lineker doing if they're not giving "genuine insight ... from the mind of an ex pro"?

What a bizarre contradictory comment.

like I said, sky go a lot deeper.  bbc tv football coverage is bland, banal and pointless.  totally unlike 5live however, which is ace.

ian wright is correct, football coverage needs a shake-up.

ditch the analysis and punditry on match of the day. the presenter is normally that ugly brummie who adds nothing. the pundits, excepting hansen, are piss poor. i don't need football explaining to me when i've just seen the match, so don't bother to try and analyse it.

at the moment the only thing i get out of pundits is a few laughs at their errors/personal quirks/lawrenson "moments".

Yes, he is right in that respect, but as stated above he was part of the problem in the 1st place.

It does my head in when pundits / ex players just describe what I've just watched but in slo-mo then pretend the've been insightful

The reason Andy Gray gets more respect than most is that at times he will give a genuine insight into the game from the mind of an ex pro.

disagree, Wright livens tv coverage up loads.

and andy gray!? fark off, he's the biggest tool of them all. spouts utter drivel and gets basic rules wrong. arrogant and inocrrect.

and i don't buy this utter tosh that ex pro's add anything. just get me someone who knows alot about football, is good an incitive when talking about it, and not a complete nob jockey. it's really not hard but they always pick plonkers/dullards/thickos/idiots. ex players normally cover all those bases.

like people saying ex players should be refs, or that refs are lacking something because they've not played in the premiership - different jobs and wishful thinking.

He may well be, but five minutes of listening to the drivel he and whatsisface come up with on talkSport is enough to convince anyone who knows what the term lobotomy means though education rather than personal experience that he has no idea how to provide it. And is in no real place to be criticising the punditry of others.
tv analysis of football is bad enough, i certainly wouldn't bother listening to other people air their opinions for which i care little. so, i've not heard him on the radio and was talking about tv coverage only.

I fucking hate Ian Wright. I remember during the world cup he was the pundit for some random game. Ukraine vs Iran or something like that. And when he was asked a questing at half time, he responded " I dont care. I only care about England!"

Yeah good one you fucking mong! Our TV licence is paying you to give us some "expert" analysis of the game.  Fucking cock box of the highest order.

I hate Andy Gray. Most overrated pundit there is.

And if i have to hear him making excuses for a player cocking up a shot/pass on £90k a week, i'll hunt him down. At the pinnacle of the game they should be judged harshly, not excused for controlling a lovely through ball out for a goal kick because 'he couldn't anticipate the bobble'...

Quite, or chuckling indulgently as Paul Scholes scythes down another hapless opponent.  "Aye that's Scholsey"
