How do you cook rice so that it comes out like you get at restaurants?  Whenever I cook the fucking stuff it all sticks together all stodgy (or however you spell it).

Any ideas?

I do it one of two ways depending on my mood!

Either in a pan.  Rinse the rice and then strain it.  Bring it to boil and then simmer.  Bob's your uncle, piece of piss.  Then just fluff it with a fork!

Or another good way is to steam it which is good and much easier!!

Being the helpful googling monkey that I am I found these:

http://whatscookingamerica.net/Q-A/RiceCooking.htm
http://www.hintsandthings.co.uk/kitchen/rice.htm
http://www.waitrose.com/food_drink/recipes/stepbystep/fluffyrice.asp

The top one looked like they were having the same problem.

Could be the kind of rice you buy.....avoid anything called easy or quick cook etc, and go for long grain.....basmati is the best.

Make sure you wash it before cooking and soak for about 30 mins....melt some butter, in a heavy bottomed pot, put the rice in with sufficient water and bring to boil and then on low heat for 20 mins.....fork before serving.

Mmmmmm

Microwave never fails for me.
Handful of rice per person.
Enough water to cover rice by 1cm.
10 mins full power.
Check. More water/more time as needed.
