Staying on a marina in Chichester the bird life is something else. Every morning there's a couple of black swans that wander round, then a grey heron flies over and fishes for a while, then about 8:00am a cormorant lands nearby and dives for fish. It happens almost like clockwork.

You should see some of the birds that fly about the outskirts here, they is fucking HUGE!
Big old fruit bats aren't un-common either, even in downtown Bangkok.
To quote a friend of mine "That's not a bat, it's batman". And we where stood on the balcony of a house right slap bang dash in the city centre at the time.
Gekko's are cool as, and are almost a neccessary (Sp?) addition to any Thai abode, cos' they eat mosquito's and flies and that. And they are just cool to watch. Although they can be WELL noisy at times.

We found a massive Koi in our pond when we moved in (owner left behind) and saw a fair few herons interested however netting soon prevented attack! Although my 10 goldfish were eaten by that bastard fish! (10 boring orangey ones and 3 white ones called Hilda, Harry and Henry )

If you have ornamental carp in your pond...then watch out, not for herons, but for Poles. Its Christmas dinner in Eastern Europe....and apparently lots go missing at this time of year.
