Going after work on Friday by train to the 'Dam and looking for some info on cheap and decent hostels and stuff to do. Planning to stay for 2 nights and then back home on the Sunday.
Thanks!

Has to be the Bulldog, not the cheapest hostel but they have their own bars and coffee shops and are a cracking place to start on a first visit. There's one in leidseplein, which is where all the bars are and there's another tucked in the Red Light district. http://www.bulldog.nl/

And the bulldog breakfast keeps you going for most of the day.
