I'm off to ireland on sunday. Dublin and County Mayo. I've never had a guiness before, so am looking forward to my first. What should I expect fom the place? Do they all look like this?: http://www.stupidsteve.co.uk/images/leprechaun_maldon_mud_runners.jpg

Expect to enjoy the Guinness. It seriously does taste better in Ireland than anywhere else. Dublin's great, but not cheap. If you see Andrea Corr, give 'er one from me

I think its a psychological thing. You are in Ireland, ergo the Guinness must be better.
Last time I was there (2000), it most certainly WAS better than what we got this side of the Irish Sea (I mean England btw).

You are right though, all the Guinness is now brewed in Dublin. It certainly wasn't when I was there, and it seriously did taste better. Like you say, who gives a shit

Oddly enough, when I went to Dublin about 10 years ago I went to the place they make Guiness and hated it. It is now my drink of choice after sampling it in Lux earlier this year!

It does taste better over there, I imagine they actually take care of it rather than passing it through some dirty shite pump that probably just had the Carling with excessive nitrogen added.
Expensive, and watch out for the late night price change in most pubs (used to get a late license I think).
Have a pop up to Kilmannon Gaol (sp?) if in Dublin, there is a lovely pub called The Patriot next door which gave us a very warm welcome, something along the lines of "why don't those fucking British tourists all just fuck off home". This went down pleasingly following the 2 hour tour of the jail which was basically a story of how nasty the British were to the Irish.
