we always used to play a version of dodgeball with a tennis ball up against a wall, if you caught the ball you can lace it at the poor fuckers stood against the wall - you couldn't come away from the wall until you had been hit.

We used to play Beatball at school. Lot's of people, a defined space and a couple of footballs. Get hit above the ankle by a football and you were fair game for a kicking until you managed to get outside the designated area. Same if you kicked the ball out. Happy days. Worked quite well on the tennis courts as well as the field.

i saw one group of kids play our game with a cricket ball, one broken jaw later and a quick trip to A&E put paid to that version.
